The Problem Behind the Bubbles on Jalan Gubeng in Surabaya

Poros Pos. There was no rain, there was no wind, Jalan Gubeng, one of the main roads in the city of Surabaya, suddenly collapsed on Tuesday (12/18) at around 21.00 WIB. The Gubeng road which was split and subsided was observed to gape very wide and deep like a cliff.

Parts of Jalan Gubeng which collapsed near the Surabaya Siloam Hospital project were in the process of being processed. An allegation of road subsidence appears to be affected by the collapse of the crane involved in the project.

One of the witnesses of the incident was a BNI 46 security guard, who was located near the location of the roadway.

"After the crane fell, the vehicle stopped. Then suddenly the ground sank," Julianto said, BNI 46 security personnel, Tuesday (12/18/2018).

Command Center 112 officers revealed the depth of the road that collapsed ranged from 10-15 meters. Whereas the length of the affected road is estimated to reach 25 meters.

"Ambles are approximately 10 meters. And the width is around 10 to 15 meters. Currently the FMD is checking in. Are there victims who have fallen or not," Amir said.

Luckily during the incident, Julianto revealed, there were no vehicles crossing the road. Vehicles that happened to pass immediately stopped when they found out the crane collapsed.

"Traffic was not crowded at that time. There were no vehicles on the road that had subsided," Julianto said.

Julianto also claimed to have heard an explosion before the project crane on Jalan Gubeng collapsed and hit the road.

"It happened around 9:30 a.m. WIB, very fast. There was an explosion before the ground collapsed. The sound of the explosion from the direction of the project crane," he explained.

Julianto added that the people's panic actually happened after the road subsidence. Workers who are still in the building around the location immediately run out.

"Yes, all panicked because of the sinking, it was thought lindu (earthquake). But I did not participate, just panicking. Because when I happened outside (in front of the building). I had taken the employee's car from the basement of the building," he explained .

Nevertheless, officers continued to comb the scene to ensure there were no casualties.

Head of the Surabaya City Development Planning Agency (Bappeko) Eri Cahyadi suspects that the subsidence of land on Jalan Raya Gubeng, Surabaya, occurred due to an error in the construction of the project by PT NEK. The Surabaya City Government will bring in experts and responsible people from Jakarta.

"There are allegations of errors in the implementation of construction. So we make sure tomorrow with experts and those in charge from Jakarta," Eri explained.

Allegedly because of the Hospital Project

Eri explained, currently the alleged construction error is a retaining wall that is unable to withstand the load, causing subsidence.

"The retaining wall can't hold the load so that it collapses and pulls the ground below. As for the settlement, the concrete has been left and right, so there is no problem. So tomorrow we want to check. Actually what the problem, "said Eri.

After this incident, the Surabaya City Government will stop the PDAM water channel in the Jalan Raya Gubeng area.

"We will stop the PDAM channel from going out. Then we will divert the channel which has been withdrawn by using pumps. We will also coordinate with the PLN for information that had died," Eri said.

Whereas to simplify the process of checking and anticipating the approaching people, the City Government will close the sinking ground hole.

"We will close with a zinc-zinc fence around the site of the land subsidence. The two sides will be totally closed," he said.

The police have also carried out inspections related to the projects carried out around the collapsed Gubeng Road. There were three witnesses who had been questioned by the police last night.

"Regarding the subsidence of land on Jalan Raya Gubeng, we are currently examining and evacuating victims if this exists. We did the rescue first because the condition is still dark," said East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Luki Hermawan.

Based on AFP's monitoring, at around 04.00 WIB, officials from the Public Works Agency began to blockade the fence made of asbestos. The police also installed two layers of police lines to stem residents who wanted to get close to the scene since last night.

"There are three workers that we have secured for questioning. Just now we took evidence, transfer reports, and reports on daily activities," Luki explained.

Traffic flows from both directions are closed. "We will start from Jalan Sulawesi right in front of this park (Taman Persahabatan). From the opposite direction, it starts from Raya Gubeng," said Satpol PP officer Try Sutrisno.
